Wednesday, October 25, 2006

Web Site Back On-Line:  Our web site is back up and running.  Thank you for your patience while we solved the problems with our server.

Winter Session Information:  We are in the process of finalizing our upcoming winter session.  We hope to have all information posted by Thursday, November 9th.  Please check our web sites for updates on the upcoming session as they become available.

Stanford University Home Game:  After six weeks on the road Stanford University will finally return home to play at The Avery Aquatics Center.  This Saturday, 10/28, The #4 ranked Stanford Cardinal will take on the #14 ranked 49ers from Long Beach State.  Game time is scheduled for 12:00 pm. Coming to Stanford games is a great way for younger athletes to gain a better understanding of how the game is played at the highest of levels.  We encourage all our athletes and parents to come on out and watch some of the best water polo players in the country and to help cheer on the Cardinal.   Also make note that next Saturday, 10/4, Stanford will play host to #1 ranked USC.  Game time is scheduled for 1:30 pm.

Final Beginner Games This Saturday:  The final round of Beginner Games will take place this Saturday, 10/28.  The pool at Freemont Hills has been experiencing some difficulties this past week, and as a result the games will be moved to Stanford University.  This Saturday’s games will be played at the Avery Aquatics Center from 8-10 am. We are extremely lucky to be able to use Stanford, for workouts and for this Saturday with such short notice.  Please keep in mind that there will be Stanford Varsity teams using the facility that morning so we need to be even more courteous.  This Saturday we ask that you enter the facility and remain on the upper deck.  Your coaches will bring the athletes on deck by using one of the stairwell in the Stadium pool.  We ask that parents remain on the upper deck please.  Rosters and game times can be found below.  Please have athletes at the pool 30 minutes prior to the start of their game for warm up.  Contact Coach Barnea at jbarnea@gmail.com with any questions.

Final League Weekend This Sunday:  The final Pacific Zone Fall League games will be played this Sunday, 10/29.   We have entered one more team than usual this weekend in an attempt to get everyone a little more playing time.  The teams are split into 2 age divisions.  We will have 3 teams playing in the 8th grade division and 1 team playing in the 6th grade division.  We hope that all our athletes will be able to participate in this final weekend of fall league games.  The entire coaching staff is extremely excited about the development of all our age group athletes this fall and are look forward to seeing everyone play one last time this session.  Athletes should arrive at the pool no later than 45 minutes prior to the start of their first game.  Rosters, game times, and game locations can be found below.  Don’t forget, daylight savings time ends at 2 am on Sunday morning so set your clocks 1 hour ahead before you go to bed on Saturday night.  Contact Coach Barnea at jbarnea@gmail.com with any questions.

Intermediate and Advanced League Games Sunday:  Games will be held this Sunday, 10/1/2006, for all Age Group Intermediate and Advanced athletes.  Team rosters, game times, and game locations are listed below. Please have athletes at the pool no later than 30 minutes prior to the start of their game. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Barnea at jbarnea@gmail.com

Beginner Games A Great Success:  We want to congratulate all of our beginners that took part in the games this past Saturday.  For many of them, it was their first time playing in a real water polo game.  The coaching staff was so excited to see the next generation of water polo athletes getting their feet wet.  We are already looking forward to our next round of Beginner games set to take place Saturday, October 7th.

A Reminder to All Club Parents:  It is important for us to remind you that parents cannot be down on the pool deck during practice.  Because there are several other programs that take place at the Stanford pool facility, all spectators are asked to remain on the upper level of the complex.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

College Recruiting Information Night:  We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that Stanford Water Polo Club will host its annual college recruiting information session next Tuesday (9/26) at 7:30 pm in Kissick Auditorium. During this meeting we will present written material and provide some insight into the best ways for a student-athlete to navigate the college selection process. The meeting is intended for Stanford Water Polo Club parents and athletes and is designed specifically for students enrolled as sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school.  Kissick Auditorium is located in the athletic department across from Maples Pavilion.  We hope that all our high school athletes are enjoying the start of school and their fall seasons.  If you have any questions, please contact Coach Barnea at jbarnea@gmail.com.

Great Job At Zone League This Past Weekend:  Congratulations to all our athletes that participated in this past weekend’s zone league games.  The coaching staff was extremely pleased with the way that our teams played.  The games were a great way to mark where individual athletes, and our teams, are in their development in the sport.  Over the next couple weeks we will continue to work on developing the skills and tactics needed to better understand the game of water polo before we head back to the pool for our second round of league games scheduled for October 1st.

Beginner League Games Begin Saturday:  Rosters and game times are listed below for the beginner league games.  The first round of games will take place this Saturday at Fremont Hills Country Club in Los Altos Hills.  Please have athletes at the pool 30 minutes prior to the start of their listed game time for warm up.  We are looking forward to getting the future of our sport in the pool to play some fun and exciting water polo games.
