Final Week of Fall Session:  This week marks the final week in our Fall Session.  We have a great final weekend planned for all athletes; with Pacific Zone League games for all AG 1 and AG 2 athletes on Sunday, Junior Polo games at Stanford on Saturday, and a great Stanford home game on Saturday vs. Long Beach State.  Details on all events are listed below and on our web site.

Pacific Zone League Games Posted:  Rosters, game times, game locations, and maps to the venues for this Sunday’s Pacific Zone Fall League are now posted below.  Athletes should arrive at the pool no later than 45 minutes prior to the start of their first game for warm up.  If you do not see your son’s name on one of the rosters, if you know you will be unable to attend, or if you have any questions regarding Sunday’s games, please email Coach Barnea at your convenience (email).

Jr. Polo Games Saturday:  The Jr. Polo group will have it’s final round of games this Saturday at the Avery Aquatics Center form 9:15-11:15 am.  All athletes are encouraged to stay at Stanford following their game to watch the Stanford vs. Long Beach State, game which will begin at 12:00 pm.

Stanford Varsity Update:  Stanford finished off a great weekend with a couple of road wins against #4 UCLA (12-2) and UC Santa Cruz (14-2).  For his efforts in Saturday’s contest at UCLA, Stanford Goalie, and Menlo grad, Jimmie Sandman was named MPSF Player of the Week.  Jimmie is the 3rd Cardinal to claim this award this season and is the second Cardinal in back-to-back weeks.   The Cardinal returned home last night to defeat #17 UOP (10-4) and will next play host to #10 ranked Long Beach State on Saturday at 12:00 pm.

Remember, Saturday’s game will mark Round II of The Water Polo Fun Fest.  This game will be very competitive and we want to turn out some extra fans so bring your friends and family to enjoy the following:

Prizes for half-time trivia contest include 200 Mikasa mini-water polo balls and Stanford teddy bears as the Championship Trivia Round grand prizes. This is a lot of laughs and all ages can answer the questions!

After the game, the Stanford Varsity water polo players invite you onto the pool deck to receive a high definition color poster of the team players. The players will be seated and autographing the poster for you.  The Varsity athletes would like to meet ALL of the players in our Club.

As an emerging water polo star, don’t be afraid to ask Varsity players for advice on anything of interest to you.

Come on out and support the Cardinal as they make their mid-season run at this year’s NCAA Championship, and we promise that you will enjoy the Fun Fest, and a tough Division I College water polo match.

Jr. Polo Games Round IV This Saturday:  The Jr. Polo group will have it’s fourth round of games this Saturday at the Roble Pool form 9:00-11:00 am.  Please keep in mind that the following Saturday, 10/25, will be the final competition date for the Jr. Polo group and games will be held at the Avery Aquatics Center both before, and after, the Stanford Men’s Water Polo Game at 12:00 pm.

Special Thanks To Olympic Silver Medalist Peter Hudnut:  We would like to thank Olympic Silver Medalist, and Stanford graduate, Peter Hudnut, for stopping by our AG 1 & 2 practice last week and taking the time to talk to our athletes about his Olympic experience.  It was a great surprise for all our athletes and coaches and we look forward to his return sometime in the near future. To read a great article on Peter published prior to his departure for the Beijing click here

Stanford Varsity Update:  Stanford capped of a great weekend by returning from the SoCal Tournament with a second place finish.  Last weekend’s tournament was highlighted by a 7-4 win over UCLA in the semi-finals and an 8-7 over-time loss to USC in the finals.  The Cardinal’s performance moved them up to this week’s #2 ranking in the national polls while Senior 2m-man Will Hindle-Katel was named MPSF co-player of the week.  The Cardinal will return home next week with two MPSF matches.  On Wednesday at 5:00 pm the Cardinal will play host to #16 University of the Pacific, and Saturday at 12:00 pm #10 ranked Long Beach State rolls into town.  Both games will be great opportunities for our age group athletes to watch some of the best water polo players in the country.  Admission is free to any and all that attend, and don’t forget about round two of the Fan-Fest that will take place during halftime of Saturday’s Long Beach game.

Winter Session Coming Soon:  We are in the process of finalizing details on our upcoming 08/09 Winter Session.  We hope to have information posted on our web site by the beginning of next week.

Home Opener This Friday For #3 Stanford Cardinal: It is fall…and that means the start of college water polo. Please come this Friday night, September 19th  and see Stanford play Air Force at 6pm sharp. Free admission to Stanford Water Polo games, and the #3 ranked Stanford Cardinal team has many new features to check out:

  • Goalie Jimmy Sandman who blocked 4 out of 5 penalty shots at the recent Princeton Tournament
  • Two Meter offensive sensations: Ryan McCarthy, Will Hindle-Katel, and Jeffrey Schwimer
  • Outside long range shooters Andrew Drake, Alex Pulido, Drac Wigo and MPSF Player-of-the-Week Janson Wigo
  • First team All-American Sage Wright, a driver who every age group player can learn from if they watch his play in the offensive end of the pool
  • New Freshman faces already in the rotation:  Jacob Smith, an intense driver from Coronado High School in San Diego, and, Peter Sefton, an All-San Diego County Athlete in Basketball, Baseball and Water Polo

There will also be a Trivia Contest at half time with lots of prizes.

Stanford's freshmen class of 2012 just arrived on Campus and for this reason the game announcer will make special introductions of the eight new freshmen water polo players at Stanford.  Included in that group you will see three Stanford club players in that lineup: 2 meter offensive player Ryan Brown, utility player Tim Norton, and driver Alex Avery.

We encourage all age group athletes, parents, family, and friends to come on out and cheer on the Cardinal.  Go Stanford!

First Weekend Of Fall League In The Books:  We want to congratulate all the athletes that participated in the Pacific Zone Fall League games this past Sunday.  Stanford Club was well represented by all athletes, parents, and coaches.  The next weekend of game play is scheduled for Sunday, September 28th.  We will post and email out the schedule as soon as it becomes available.

Fall Roster Sent Out:  A pdf document containing contact information for all fall registered families was sent out earlier today.  We encourage you to use it to help set up carpools to practices and upcoming games. If you did not recieve the email please email Coach Barnea at your convenience. (email)

Junior Polo Games This Saturday:  This Saturday, 9/20, marks the first round of games for our Junior Polo athletes.  The games will be held from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at the Roble pool on the campus of Stanford University.  The Roble pool is located on Santa Teresa St. approximately 1/4 of a mile off Campus Drive (West).

Pacific Zone Fall League Begins This Sunday:  Rosters, game times, game locations, and maps to this weekend’s Pacific Zone Fall League are now posted below.  Please have all athletes at the pool no later than 45 minutes prior to the start of their game for warm up.

The Pacific Zone Fall League is designed for all AG 1 and AG 2 athletes, and is set up in two divisions: 8th grade & under and 6th grade and under.  For the first weekend of game play we have entered 3 teams into the 8th grade division, and 1 team into the 6th grade division (pay close attention to the rosters as not all 6th grade and under athletes are scheduled to play in the 6th grade division.)  Please note that the Stanford White and Stanford Black teams are split up into two even groups.  Our aim is for all athletes to receive close to equal playing time, and for everyone (parent’s included) to have a great time.

We encourage all our athletes to do what they can to attend the games on Sunday, and if at all possible, have your kids bring a friend or two that may be interested in giving water polo a try.  Should you need a ride, know you will be unable to make it, or have any questions regarding the rosters or games, please email Coach Barnea at your convenience (email).

Junior Polo Update: Due to some unforeseen scheduling issues, we have had to make a slight adjustment in the practice times for our Junior Polo Group.  Practices will be held on the regularly scheduled days (Mondays & Wednesdays) but will take place at the Avery Aquatics Center from 6:15-7:30 pm. Saturday's games will be held as originally scheduled.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this change may have caused.  The changes are reflected below as well as on our online calendar.

Monday, August 18, 2008

Due to issues with our server, we were unable to open registration until earlier today.

Registration is now open!  Click here for Registration Form. The deadline for registration is Thursday, August 28th. Any registration materials postmarked after August 28th will incur a $30 late fee. Once you have completed the online registration, you will be able to print out signature pages that must be submitted with your payment.  Please follow the directions carefully. If you need assistance, please email Dawn at your convenience (email)

Returning athletes will receive their shortcut registration links via email by Tuesday evening, August 19th. Please see below for detailed information on the upcoming Fall session.

Our upcoming Fall Session is designed for boys ages 14 and under who are not yet in high school. There is no minimum age or skills requirement, however each athlete must demonstrate basic water safety and swimming skills.  We strongly recommend that athletes are able to swim 100 yards in less than 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

We will have three different divisions for the Fall Session based on age and ability level:  Jr. Polo, Age Group 2 and Age Group 1.  All three divisions will participate in a Fall League with other local teams.

Session Dates:
Tuesday, September 2nd - Sunday, October 26th* for Age Groups 1 & 2
Monday, September 8th - Saturday, October 25th for Jr. Polo

*Please note:  For select Age Group athletes, the session may go as long as November 10th.  This will be based on an athlete’s selection to a certain team and whether that team qualifies for specific tournaments.  (Details below.)

Registration: Registration will be available through our web site beginning on August 14th, and will end on August 28th. Anyone registering after August 28th will need to add a $30 late fee to their payment. (All registration materials must be postmarked by August 28th to avoid the late fee.) If you have any questions regarding registration, please email Dawn (email).

Group Assignments*
Athletes will be assigned to one of three groups based on age, ability level, and experience.  Water polo ages are based on the year an athlete was born. Please refer to the table below to determine which group your child will most likely be assigned to. (Note: The coaching staff may assign an athlete to a group that does not correspond to his age, but rather his ability level and experience.)

Group assignments will be posted by Friday, August 29th, on the "Practice Groups and Schedule" page of our web site.

*Please note:  Although the coaches assign each athlete to a group prior to the start of the session, there may be some changes in group assignments during the first few practices as the coaches assess each athlete's skills and ability level.
