League Games this Weekend : Information on the 4th round of Spring League games for our Age Group athletes is now posted below. Athletes should be at the pool 45 minutes before the start of their first game. (Remember to use your Club Roster for carpools.) Please email stanfordwaterpoloclub@yahoo.com if you are unable to participate on Sunday. Go Stanford!

High School Practice this Sunday: This Sunday's practice for all HS 1 and 2 athletes has been changed due to a scheduled swim meet. Practice will be held in the Avery Competition Pool during the following times:
HS 1: 12 noon ? 2:00 pm
HS 2: 2:00 ? 4:00 pm

Jr. Polo Games this Saturday: Jr. Polo athletes will have their first games this Saturday from 9:00 ? 11:00 am at the Roble Pool on Stanford Campus.

Team Shop Orders: If you placed an order through our online Team Shop and submitted your confirmation and payment, your order is ready for pick up at the Avery Aquatic Center . Please ask Coach Barnea for your order before practice, or come down to the Men's Water Polo office to see if someone is available to get if for you. The Team Shop will open again on April 23, when registration for the Summer Session opens.

No Practice Sunday: There will be no practice this Sunday for all Age Group and High School Athletes.

We are looking forward to the upcoming session, which will be highlighted by our clubs' hosting of this year's Junior Olympics.

Last Weekend's League Games: Congratulations to all our age group athletes that participated in last weekend's league games. The coaching staff saw a dramatic improvement in all teams' level of play from the previous weekend. The third round of league games will take place this coming Sunday, April 5th . More details can be found below.

Jr. Polo Spring Session Underway: Monday marked the beginning of our spring Jr. Polo Session. It is still not too late to sign up. Any interested families should scroll down for information on the spring session or click here to begin registration.

High School Practice Update: This Sunday, April 5th , all HS I athletes will practice from 9:00-11:00 am, while all HS 2 athletes will practice from 11:00 am.-1:00 pm. Both workouts will be held at Stanford University.

Age Group League Games This Sunday: Rosters, game times, locations and maps to pools for this Sunday's Age Group league games are posted below. Athletes should plan on arriving at the pool no later than 45 minutes prior to the start of their first game. Once again, we will need to provide one desk worker per game, so if you are available, please talk to one of our coaches on deck to find out how you can help. If you do not see your son's name on a roster, if you know you will be unable to attend, of if you have any other questions, please email Coach Barnea at your convenience ( email ).

Team Shop Closes this Sunday, 4/5: The Team Shop will be closing for the Spring Session on Sunday, 4/5, and will not reopen until the start of the Summer Session in May. So, if placing an order is on your list of things to do, make sure to get it done by Sunday. Besides our team suits, we have sweatshirts, T-shirts, baseball caps, towels, water bottles and much more! We even have Quiksilver board shorts on sale for half the regular price-- a great deal with the warm weather coming!

Final Jr Polo Clinic This Saturday, 3/28: Our final Jr. Polo clinic of the spring will be held this Saturday, from 9:00 -10:30 am at the Roble Pool on the campus of Stanford University. All Jr. Polo athletes that are registered for the upcoming Jr. Polo Spring Session are welcome to join free of charge, and are encouraged to bring along a friend. The cost for any non-spring session athlete is only $20 and all participants will walk away with a Mikasa Mini Water Polo Ball. Age Group Spring League This Sunday, 3/29: Rosters, game times, game locations and directions to the pool are now posted below for this weekend's spring league. Normal High School Practice on Sunday: All high school athletes will have practice during there regularly scheduled practice time, 11:00 am-1:00 pm, Sunday 3/29.

Stanford Team Heading To Hungary: In a couple of weeks, 12 members of the HS I group, along with Coach Barnea, will be heading to Hungary for a 10-day European water polo adventure. The team will be traveling to the cities of Eger and Budapest where they will have two training session per day, with and against, various Hungarian club teams. We hope that this will be the first of many spring trips overseas for our high school athletes and we will be updating everyone on all the great polo once the teams return.

Age Group Weekend Re-Cap: Congratulations to all our athletes that participated in this past weekend's Pacific Zone Spring League. The coaching staff was impressed with the progress that all teams made during the day and were very pleased with how our athletes and parents handled themselves in and around the pool deck. The next weekend of Spring League games will be Sunday, March 29th . As soon as a schedule becomes available we will post it on our web site with team rosters and directions to the facilities.

Junior Polo Clinics Winding Down: This Sunday, 3/22, we will be hosting the fifth of six Junior Polo Clinics from 9:00-10:30 am at the Roble Pool on the campus of Stanford University. The clinics are a great way to introduce the sport of water polo to boys who have little to no experience, but are interested in getting their “feet wet”. We encourage all of our club families to help spread the word about our Junior Polo Clinics. Junior Polo Clinic This Sunday: The third of six Junior Polo clinics will be held this Sunday, 3/8, from 4:00-5:30 pm at Palo Alto High School. We encourage all our current club families to help spread the word to other families that may have athletes interested in giving water polo a try. The clinics are designed to give a brief and entertaining introduction to the sport for boys and girls ages 12 and under. HS II Practice Update: Due to limited pool space at Stanford this Sunday, 3/8, the HS II group will practice from 1:00-3:00 pm. All AG I, AG II and HS I practice times remain as scheduled.

Strength and Conditioning Update: There are still a couple of spots available for HS level athletes interested in participating in the Spring Strength and Conditioning Academy. PROGRAMS/EVENTS

Strength Development Program: Stanford Strength Coach, Ron Forbes, will be offering a strength development program this session for our high school athletes. Coach Ron currently trains the Men's Water Polo Team at Stanford University. The program is designed for athletes who have a background in strength training and are looking to engage in a challenging conditioning program. This program will be open to high school athletes only, and workouts will be held at Stanford University.

The Strength Development Program is a unique opportunity to train each athlete for the physical demands of water polo. Focus is placed on the development of each athlete's strength, power, and flexibility, all fundamental components necessary for high-level athletic performance. Athletes will learn to build strength and agility while performing challenging and exciting workout routines, all while being in a controlled and educational environment.

USA Water Polo Men's National Team Competition (March 21st & 22nd ) : This weekend, the nation's top male water polo players will compete in the second of three tournaments of the 2009 USWP Men's National Team Selection Competitions. During the weekend we will attend games as a club to watch and learn from this exciting, high-level water polo. Details TBA.

Invitational Scrimmage Games (Dates TBD): We will be scheduling scrimmage games with club teams from the area. Details will be announced as they become available.

San Diego County Cup (May 1-3, 2009) : For the sixth straight year, the Stanford Water Polo Club will be sending teams to compete at the San Diego County Cup. This tournament is for Age Group athletes only and is known as one of the most competitive tournaments in the country. Selection of athletes for these teams will take place during the spring session and will be based on practice attendance, attitude, ability level and availability.

Age Group athletes selected to attend the San Diego County Cup will have additional practices on the following dates in order to help prepare for the tournament: 4/6, 4/13, 4/20, 4/27, 4/29 & 4/30. Please note that there will be an additional $100 fee that will be worked into the cost of the trip for those that are selected to participate. This fee will cover the cost of the additional practices as well as the tournament entry fee.

Pacific Zone Spring League: All Age Group I and II athletes will participate in the Pacific Zone Spring League. The league provides athletes with great competition against other clubs from the Pacific Zone.
Competition dates: March 15th, March 29th, April 5th, and April 19th.

Junior Olympics Selection: This year Stanford Water Polo Club will be hosting the 2009 National Junior Olympics. During the Spring Session, the coaching staff will be evaluating athletes for the summer Junior Olympic teams. Our 2009 Summer Session is currently scheduled to begin on Monday, May 11th, with Junior Olympics being held July 25th - July 28th. The JO Qualifying Tournament (mandatory for all athletes selected for JO's) dates are as follows:

12&U athletes (born in 1997 and younger): June 19-21
14&U athletes (born in 1995 and 1996): June 19-21
16&U athletes (born in 1993 and 1994): June 12-14
18&U athletes (born in 1991 and 1992): June 19-21

Junior Polo Clinics (See dates below) : During the months of February and March, we will be running six one-day clinics for beginner level athletes, ages 11 & under. These clinics are designed to introduce the sport of water polo to boys who have little to no experience, but are interested in getting their “feet wet”. During these one-day clinics we will give athletes a basic introduction to the sport of water polo while providing them with a fun and exciting learning experience. We encourage all of our club families to help spread the word about our Junior Polo Clinics!

Registration for these clinics will take place at the venue on the day of each clinic. (There will be no pre-registration.)

The cost is $20 per clinic, or $100 for all six clinics.

Junior Polo Spring Session: The Junior Polo Spring Session (for athletes born in 1998 and later) will begin March 30th and end May 16th , during which time they will have games on select Saturdays. Please see the Practice Schedule and Spring League competition dates below. You may register online* anytime between Monday, February 9th and Monday, March 30th for the Junior Polo Spring Session at www.stanfordwaterpoloclub.com .

*Please note: All registration materials must be received, prior to the start of practice on Monday, March 30th , including a hard copy of USA Water Polo membership (valid through May 16, 2009). Athletes with incomplete registrations will not be allowed to get in the water.

Junior Polo Spring Games: Stanford Water Polo Club will once again be hosting the Junior Polo Spring Games for athletes ages 11 & under. The games are designed to provide our Junior Polo athletes with some local competition. Competition dates are: April 18th , May 2nd , and May 16th .

TEAM GEAR
Our club clothing and other team gear is available through our online Team Shop . Please click on the Team Shop (button on the left side) to view and order items. The Team Shop will be open from Feb.9th - April 5th . The Team Shop will not open again until the summer session, so be sure to place your order before it closes at 6:00pm on April 5th . All team gear is optional, but we recommend that athletes have a team suit and a T-shirt or sweatshirt for games/tournaments. Some items have limited quantities, so submit your order and payment early for best selection!

Registration will be available on our web site beginning Monday, February 9th. (Registration is only available online). Once registration opens, please follow the registration directions carefully. Note: All athletes must submit the following documents in order for your registration to be processed. To qualify for Early Registration, all of the items below must be postmarked by February 20th , 2009. (For Junior Polo athletes, received/in hand by the first practice, Monday, March 30th .)

2. Copy of valid USWP Membership, which must be good through the end of the Spring Session (4/26/09 for Age Groups and High School; 5/16/08 for Junior Polo). Your affiliation must be with Stanford Water Polo Foundation, Club #570, Pacific Zone (#6).
3. Payment to “NCWPC” for the appropriate amount. (See table above.)

Trial Membership* (February 23 - March 11) : If you are new to water polo or our club and are interested in a two-week trial period, your payment and all registration materials (including USWP membership) must be completed in order to participate. Your check will not be cashed unless you decide to continue with the program. Please be sure to write on your signature page that you are requesting the trial membership.

Note: The trial membership is not available for the Junior Polo Spring Session, therefore we encourage these athletes to attend the clinics.

Refund Policy: $100.00 of the registration fee is non-refundable. The balance is refundable at a pro-rate during the first three weeks of the program.

Athletic Scholarship Fund: The Stanford Water Polo Foundation Athletic Scholarship Fund helps athletes participate in our program that otherwise would not be able to due to financial hardship*. For those who would like to contribute to this fund in support of our athletes, please fill in the designated area on the registration form. Donations are tax-deductible. Please make these checks payable to 'SWPF', or Stanford Water Polo Foundation. Thank you.
