College Tournament At Stanford This Weekend: This Friday thru Sunday Stanford will be hosting a tournament with some of the best college teams in the country along with top club team Olympic Club and the USA National B Team.

There are 5 opportunities to watch the Stanford Cardinal in action:
Friday @ 4:00pm Stanford vs. Olympic Club
Saturday @ 8:00am: Stanford vs. UCLA
Saturday @ 4:00pm: Stanford vs. USA National “B” Team
Sunday @ 8:00am: Stanford vs. UCI
Sudnay @ 4:00pm: Stanford vs. Cal

Note to Parents: We have found that it is a valuable experience for the younger members of our Water Polo Family to observe the oldest players in “the family” enter the pool deck, stretch, do their swim, passing and shooting warm-ups, and in game situations such as time-outs, bench etiquette, and post-game behavior. Each and every game is sure to be intense and evenly matched, so come on out to watch some of the country’s best water polo teams in action this weekend! A full schedule of the games can be downloaded by clicking here.

During the months of
April and May, we will be running five one-day clinics for beginner level athletes, ages 12 & under. These clinics are designed to introduce the sport to young, new athletes who would like to give water polo a try. During these one-day clinics, athletes will receive a basic introduction to the sport and participate in games in a fun and exciting learning manner. We encourage all of our Club Families to help spread the word about our Junior Polo Clinics!

Registration for these clinics will take place at the venue on the day of each clinic. (There will be no pre-registration.)

The cost is $20 per clinic, or $80 for all 5 clinics.

2010 SUMMER SESSION PRACTICE GROUP ASSIGNMENTS
Due to the number of athletes and the level of tournament play in the summer session, athletes must practice with their assigned group.

Please Note: There may be some changes to practice group assignments during the first two weeks of the session while coaches assess the athletes and their placement in each of the practice groups.

The division between the Age Groups and High School Groups will be based on birth date. Players born on July 31, 1995 and later will be assigned to one of the Age Groups: AG 1, AG 2, or Jr. Polo, while players born between August 1, 1995 - July 30, 1991 will be assigned to one of the three High School groups: HS 1A, HS 1B, or HS 2.

If you still have questions regarding practice group assignments, please e-mail Coach Barnea (email).
If you do not see your name listed it is because we are still missing one or more of your registration documents. No athlete will be allowed to practice until all registration materials have been successfully processed. To find out what registration documents you are missing please email Dawn at your convenience (email).

STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (optional add-on)
Stanford University Strength and Conditioning Coach Stephen DiLustro will be offering an 8-week Strength & Conditioning program to Stanford Water Polo Club athletes. The strength & conditioning program is a unique opportunity to train each student athlete for the physical and metabolic demands of water polo. Training is provided to each athlete by the same Strength and Conditioning coaches, and using the same facilities, as the Stanford Cardinal Men's Water Polo Team. This is an intense academy designed to provide the fundamental components necessary to maximize athletic performance and physical development. More details will be posted as they become available.

SUMMER TOURNAMENTS
Below you will find a list of tournaments that are currently scheduled for the 2010 Summer Session. We will be adding more local tournaments to the list as we get closer to summer so please continue to check back for updates. These can also be found on our Calendar

June 11-13: Junior Olympic Qualifier for select 16&U
June 18-20: Junior Olympic Qualifier for select 12&U, 14&U, & 18&U
July 9-11: US Club Championships for select 14&U, 16&U, and 18&U
July 31-August 3: Boys Junior Olympics* (Los Angeles) for select 12&U, 14&U, 16&U, and 18&U

The boys' Junior Olympic competition will take place July 31st - August 3rd, and we hope to qualify as many Stanford Club teams as possible. In order to participate at the Junior Olympics, teams must first qualify through our Pacific Zone qualifying tournament. (See dates above for each age group's qualifying dates.) In order to be considered for a JO Team, athletes must commit and declare themselves eligible by submitting their signed Junior Olympic Declaration of Commitment form along with their $200 deposit postmarked by Tuesday, June 1st.

Per USA Water Polo's new change in it's Conduct of Championships, an athlete's age for USA Water Polo Zone Qualification Tournaments and National Championship events will be determined by an athlete's age on the first day of the respective National Championship Finals competition, not the year you were born, as in years past. Thus, the age cut-offs per group for the 2010 Junior Olympics will be as follows:

10&U: July 31, 1999 and later
12&U: July 31, 1997 and later
14&U: July 31, 1995 and later
16&U: July 31, 1993 and later
18&U: July 31, 1991 and later

Stanford Club athletes may be selected to play up an age group. Such decisions will be made by the coaching staff on a case by case basis.

The JO Declaration of Commitment form will print out with the signature pages once you submit your online registration. We encourage you to submit the Commitment form and deposit with your registration materials if you know you are available. Selection to a JO team is based on, but not limited to, the following criteria: overall ability level, work ethic, and longevity with the Club. Athletes selected for Junior Olympic teams to play in the Qualifying Tournament will be posted on our web site by Sunday, June 6th .

ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND: The Stanford Water Polo Foundation Athletic Scholarship Fund helps athletes participate in our program that otherwise would not be able to due to financial hardship*. For those who would like to contribute to this fund in support of our athletes, please fill in the designated area on the registration form. Donations are tax-deductible. Please make these checks payable to 'SWPF', or 'Stanford Water Polo Foundation'. Thank you for your generosity.
*If you feel that you may qualify for an athletic scholarship and would like an application, please email Dawn (email)
