Lea Maurer To Join Staff: We are extremely honored to announce the addition of Lea Maurer to the Stanford Water Polo Club coaching staff. Lea, who served as the Head Women’s Swim Coach at Stanford University from 2005-2012, will bring a lifetime of aquatics expertise, unbridled enthusiasm, and a passion for teaching to our pool deck. Lea’s aquatics career includes the highest level of success as both an athlete and coach. As an athlete, Lea was an integral member of three Stanford University NCAA Championship Teams, a two-time medalist at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and was the American Record Holder in the 100 backstroke from 1992-2001. Prior to coming to Stanford, Lea led the Boys and Girls teams at Lake Forrest (IL) High School to three State Championships while being named Illinois Swimming Association Coach of the Year on eight occasions. At Stanford, Lea guided the Cardinal to back-to-back Pac-10 Championships in 2010 and 2011, never having a team that finished lower than 5th at the NCAA Championships. Lea will be coming on to work primarily with our Age Group 1 and Age Group 2 athletes where she will develop a water polo based conditioning program while also educating our athletes on stroke mechanics. We are incredibly fortunate to have Lea join our program and look forward to having her work with all our club athletes.

Stanford vs. USC This Saturday: Join us at the Avery Aquatics Center this Saturday, October 6th, at 9:00 am as your #3 ranked Stanford Cardinal play host to #1 USC in an important MPSF game which will be televised live on the new Pac-12 Network. It is a football day with Stanford playing University of Arizona at noon, so you can come to the game and easily park on campus, but not in the lots directly adjacent to the pools. Please allow an extra 10 minutes to park and walk. Admission is free for all spectators and you will not want to miss the action between two of the best teams in the country.

Jr. Polo Scrimmage Update: Due to the Stanford vs. USC game being held this Saturday at 9:00 am, this week’s Jr. Polo Games have been moved to this Sunday, 10/7, from 9:00-11:00 am at the Roble Pool. If you will be unable to attend please email Coach Barnea at your convenience (email).

Nor Cal Invitational Comes To Stanford: This Saturday and Sunday15 of the top 20 teams in the country, including your #4 Stanford Cardinal, will be competing at the Avery Aquatics Center for the 2012 Nor Cal Invitational. We highly encourage all of our athletes to come out and watch some of the best colligate teams and players in the country. Detailed information can be found on the tournament web site and can be accessed by clicking here.

Please note: Due to the direct conflict with Sunday’s scheduled practice time, all currently registered 2012 Fall Session athletes have been put on a pass list for Sunday’s games. We ask all athletes to sit together in the South/East section of the Avery Stadium bleachers for the two semi-final games (10:50 am and 12:15 pm). Parents who are interested in coming can purchase a ticket when picking up your son’s ticket at the will call window. Just make sure athletes bring some form of ID in order to receive their ticket off the pass list.

Sunday Practice Update: As mentioned above, Sunday’s practice for all AG 1 and AG 2 athletes will not take place at it’s regularly scheduled time and place due to the 2012 Nor Cal Invitational. Currently registered Fall Session athletes have been put on a pass list for Sunday’s games and are encouraged to come for the two semi-final games (10:50 am and 12:15 pm). The will-call tickets are valid the entire day on Sunday so feel free to come for any and all games that will be played. Detailed information on the tournament can be found by clicking here.

Follow Us On Twitter: Follow us on Twitter @StanfordWPC for the latest information on games, practices and general club announcements.

Stanford Men’s Water Polo Also On Twitter: You can also follow the Stanford University Men’s Water Polo Team to get updated on scores, team press releases and more @StanfordMWP.

The Fall Session has three divisions based on age, ability level and experience:  Junior Polo, Age Group 2 and Age Group 1, with Age Group 1 being the most advanced group.  All three divisions will participate in a Fall League with other local teams.

Clothing and Team Gear
Our online Team Shop will be open from August 19 to October 7. Please keep in mind that the final date to order clothing from our online Team Shop will be Sunday, October 7, as you may want a team sweatshirt or long-sleeved T-shirt when the weather begins to get colder.
There are also several sale items with limited sizes and quantities, so shop early for the best selection! Click here or on the Team Shop button on the left.

Team Parkas
We will be placing our annual order for TruWest team parkas on Friday, September 14. The parkas are water-proof, mid-calf length, and fully lined with TruArctic. To order a team parka, please click on the Team Shop button on the left and place your order. You will need to mail your Order Confirmation sheet with payment no later than 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 12. (Payment must be received before we place our team order on September 14.)

A team parka costs $180, which includes tax, shipping, and your choice of the following embroidered on the front*:
1.  first name and last initial (Ex. J. Smith)
2.  first initial and last name (Ex. John S.)
3.  first name only (Ex. John)
4.  last name only (Ex. Smith)
*Please write/spell out on your Order Confirmation sheet which embroidery option you prefer before submitting with payment. If you would like both first and last name embroidered, please add $7.
(If you do not specify your embroidery preference, option #1, which is most common, will be used.)

We look forward to seeing you all at practice!

Criteria for each athlete's placement into a practice group is based on, but not limited to: age, position, ability level, experience, and longevity with the Club. There may be some changes to practice group assignments during the first few weeks of the session while coaches assess athletes in their pre-assigned practice groups.
